This shocking story of Blair mountain is another piece of evidence that underscores the fact that the most cherished beliefs of our democracy are naught but myth. The ugly stories have always been suppressed and buried, but the vicious nature of human greediness never dies.

Those in control can always bedevil another generation into believing that they are doing God's work, or the work of democracy, by following their self-serving lead. The politicos send off these true believers, as unwitting minions, to kill and maim other blind and desperate people and, unfortunately, receive their just rewards--in kind, in some arena of avarice where victory can only mean political and financial gain for the powerful, and more sacrifice for everyone else.

On raising awareness about mountaintop removal:
Suggestion: Get some photographers to take a series of still photos of views of each mountain. Also find historical pictures of each mountain. Provide dates where possible, and then display those same photos right next to simulated still views of how the mountains would look with the tops removed. Try to include pictures from town and village vantage points.

Do the same with actual photos of rivers and streams showing the clogging and silt runoff. Show where rivers used to be and have been filled in or rerouted underground or elsewhere. Take testimonials of people who remember the area in its natural state, and have them discuss what is different, how things have changed, things that they have endured as a result of such destruction, what they anticipate and expect to be forced to cope with. Post these for people to see. Publish a book!?
I think it would be much more effective than your surreal flyover simulation which I just watched, that made me feel like it was just a game, and which showed nothing of other human habitation or enterprise, except Logan airport.
