I grew up in Wharton from ‘51 to’61 and I remember the beautiful mountains and streams and wildlife as if it were yesterday. It breaks my heart to here about this awful mountain top removal. My Dad, John Broughton and his brothers moved from Kentucky and worked in the mines there. They all died from Black Lung. Now there’s this new stark reality that is just as bad. We moved to Chicago when my Dad got laid off and I haven’t been back since. Im 61 now and live in California but Wharton is my heart. My prayer is that Wharton survives this onslaught, and is there for future generations to look back as I have and say Wharton was the best part of my life. Please stop the murder of this beautiful place…
