Delbarton residents Larry Maynard and Walter Young have formed a new group–Delbarton Environmental Community Awareness Foundation– to help local residents understand how the mining laws can protect their property. The group can be reached at getsomedecaf@yahoo.com . Here’s how they describe the group’s aims:
One of our goals is to enlighten area coalfield residents about the environment through effective communication. We are currently focusing our efforts to help coalfield residents understand how unfair coal mining practices have affected so many aspects of our environment from the quality of the air we breathe to the water that we drink.
Soon, we hope to have regular monthly meetings to help educate citizens about how mining permits are enacted and how they may affect peoples quality of life, especially those who live within close proximity of mining operations. Also, we hope to assist people who wish to file complaints against unfair practices by helping them understand that there have been laws that were enacted to protect their rights as citizens.
Through our foundation’s efforts we continually strive to be an organizational voice for the people when necessary to help residents deal with problems relating directly to our environment and to help make our communities better places to live.
In closing, we would like to thank everyone who has helped us along the way. Giving special thanks to our friends at KFTC and OVEC.
