  1. WVFILM » Blog Archive » New videos about Buffalo Creek Disaster Says:

[…] In December 2005 The National Film Registry chose Mimi Pickering’s two films about the Buffalo Creek Disaster for its list of films to preserve for future generations. Public libraries around the state including the Buffalo Creek Memorial Library in Man presented the two films and Mimi Pickering with other experts discussed the landmark disaster. Now you can watch some brand new videos about the Disaster at the following website - http://www.ilovemountains.org/memorial/c311/174 […]

  2. Laura Curry Loding Says:

Both sets of my Grandparents lived on Buffalo Creek during the 1972 flood. One set lived in Amherstdale in Proctor Bottom (their house had to be razed), the other lived on a hill overlooking Buffalo Creek behind the ball field. I was only 9 years old at the time of the flood, but I remember all the devestation that I saw when we went to visit the grandparents during spring break that year. My uncle took us up in a jeep over some of the old loggin roads to get a view from above the dam. I was a horrible site. The only “good” that came out of the flood was the new road up Buffalo Creek, and the new water and sewer lines. I love West Virginia, it is the land of my ancestors for nearly 200 years, and to see it destroyed like this is appalling!
