<description>Right on borthers! I am from a coal mining family and as my grand-dad always said "real miners do it in the dark"
The coal industry is the only thing here that folks can take care of a family with. I remember stories of the Fraley folks having a .50cal machine gun mounted in a pick up that they used to scare union organizers and other rabble rousers with.
It is this kind of dominant fear mongering that MUST be stopped at any cost. Be damned if my daughter is going to grow up in fear of anything, be it King Coal or one of his dirty associates.

<description>I know Mr. Ramey, and his testimony is identical to that of hundreds of coal miners and citizens alike here in this forgotton pocket of the central coalfield.
Mountaintop mining began first in Virginia, and exists on a far less public and more prolific scale than the more publicised regions to our North. The companies still own everything and everybody, and no effort since the failed attempt of the daughters of Mother Jones twenty years ago has been made to change things. People here are accustomed to being overlooked my the rest of the country-how many people nationwide could tell you that "Appalachia" is a mining town in Wise county, Va.?
The State and Federal agencies are openly biased- their directors are either outright owners of coal companies, (i.e. Lambert Mining llc) or former operators.
Conditions are bad any way you rate them and the feeling of hopelessness pervades everyone, seconded only by despair and disinterest.
Southern Appalachian Mountain Stewards offers flyovers of the devastated region if anyone doubts these accounts.
This is a national tradgedy that not only is a great place being destoyed, but also a great people. The operators and their pocketed politicians have sought to declare appalachia a "National Sacrifice Zone" and have even put forth plans in the register to "relocate the population".
Please do something to stop this.We are in fact citizens of your great republic.
